The Richland School of Academic Arts elementary music programs goal is for music and movement to be one in the same. We believe that there should be little talking when giving instruction that is not sung. The theory and curriculum are based in Kodaly's Philosophy while borrowing from Orff, Laban, Music Learning Theory and other pedagogies.
Our classes are a combination of songs and chants to develop musical understanding also known as audiation. We experience music from different cultures and also music from different tonalities and meters! The activities we use in music also help build awareness for developmentally appropriate concepts such as body awareness, colors, numbers, use of space, tonal patterns, solfege and rhythm.
We love to make believe and experience music through pretending and making believe we are the music! We also love to showcase what we have been working on in music class through various performances throughout the year. We would love to see you at one of our music concerts!
